#metoo

This is a very current issue. I was watching television last weekend and there was a sort of a panel show on. They were talking about the #metoo campaign and one of the panelists, I recall she was an expert, said, roughly translated, "We cannot let this be a temporary phenomenom. We cannot let this dissappear like many other internet campaign. Sexual harassers must face consequenses." I think she's right. The victims should not suffer for speaking out. I read an article about women whose careers were destroyed because they talked about being harassed, abused, assaulted, or raped. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/nov/21/women-sexual-harassment-work-careers-harvey-weinstein One of the women is an ex-comic-book editor Janelle Asselin. She tells The Guardian that she loved her job at DC Comics. She calls it "a dream come true." Unfortunately Asselin and numerous of other women chose to leave the company after they reported Eddie Berganza for making sexua...

Body image

Today I'm going to write about a very personal issue. Since I was 8 years old, I have been told I'm too fat and should lose weight. I have heard this, not only from bullies, but adults too. When I was 8, the school nurse started telling me that I'm overweight. I don't know if I'm the only one, but I think that's messed up. No 8-year-old should be worrying about losing weight. When you're 8 you are still growing. I didn't stop growing until I was 14 or 15. I grew up insecure about my body and my weight because adults and my classmates kept reminding me that I was not skinny.  Well, by the time I was 15, I had grown taller and lost a lot of weight. Now people started telling me how I had become "so beautiful." The people telling me this were grown-ups. They were the parents of my friends', my relatives and the friends of my parents'. The thing is that I had not gotten more beautiful. I looked the same but I was taller and skin...

Happiness

When you think about it, happiness is a complicated thing. Everyone wants to be happy and everyone knows exactly how to achieve happiness. You need a stable job that pays well, yet it cannot be too hard or take up too much of your time. You need to have a significant other who stands by your side no matter what. You need a  big, beautiful house where you and your spouse will raise your children. You need stay healthy and, of course, skinny. You need to sleep enough, eat right and exercise.  Easy, isn't it? Do you think that the person who has achieved all of this is truly happy? I believe that they are not. I'm not saying they cannot be happy, of course they can be happy. I'm saying that money and an easy life are not the things that make them happy. It's all relative. Someone living in a homeless shelter might be happier than someone living in a palace. Someone working a minimum-wage job might be happier than someone who makes millions. A cancer patien...
